Postgraduate Journey
Follow your postgraduate progress from admission to completion — registration, supervisor allocation, proposals, submissions and compliance checks — all in one place, alongside the University's main portal.

Your Postgraduate Journey
Five phases and fifteen steps, from admission to completion — exactly as set out in the department's Postgraduate Journey Roadmap. Five steps are decision gates: you must pass before moving on.
Coursework & Research Preparation
Admission and university registration, prescribed lectures (MSc), then formal departmental supervisor allocation.
Proposal Stage
Draft proposal to your supervisor(s), proposal-defence form (SPGS guidelines plus departmental additions), then defence at the monthly seminar with the Internal Examiner present or represented.
Research Execution & Progress
Progress report presented at the departmental monthly seminar, with the Internal Examiner present or represented.
Thesis Verification & External Examination
Compliance & quality-assurance inspection by the Departmental Thesis Inspector, plagiarism check at the Library or ITMS (fees apply), then external defence.
Post-Defence Corrections & Completion
Comment-by-comment response to examiners' comments, final compliance inspection, submission of signed copies, completion.
Step 2 is for MSc students only. The proposal defence and progress report both hold at the departmental monthly seminar. Inspector clearance is required twice — before the plagiarism check and before final submission. See the full PG Journey Roadmap for every requirement and outcome.

Track Your Journey
Fifteen clearly defined stages — from admission and lectures to external defence and final completion — visible at a glance.
Supervision & Submissions
Research plans, seminars, proposals, progress reports and theses flow through a transparent review process.
Please note — what this site is for
This site is developed strictly to assist students in navigating their postgraduate journey, and to facilitate departmental PG coordination, progress monitoring and documentation.
It does not replace official University processes. For any other matter — including anything requiring referral to the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) — please contact the Head, Department of Physics or the PG Coordinator.
About the Postgraduate Journey
The department's own platform for tracking and managing postgraduate progress — built for students, the PG Coordinator and the Head of Department.
Who We Are
The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Abuja trains postgraduate physicists across MPhil, MSc and PhD programmes, with research strengths in five specialisation areas spanning solid-state, nuclear, solar and applied geophysics.
A Departmental Tool
The University already runs a central portal for postgraduate students across all departments. This platform is the department's own addition — focused only on how our students progress.
Non-Result Progress
It manages everything before the transcript: admission status, lecture attendance checkpoints, supervisor allocation, proposal milestones, submissions, inspections and final compliance.
Built for Coordination
Designed so the PG Coordinator and Head of Department can oversee every student's journey, while students see exactly where they stand at any time.
What the Portal Does
- Students register online, check their registration status, sign in to a personal dashboard and follow their 15-stage journey.
- The PG Coordinator approves registrations, allocates supervisors, manages staff entries, posts announcements and reviews submissions.
- The Head of Department has a read-only overview of the department's postgraduate cohort and progress.
- Staff record supervisory notes and stage updates; submission inspectors review, approve or reject submitted work with comments.
Postgraduate Programmes
MPhil, MSc and PhD study in Physics — with five research specialisation areas and a clearly staged journey from admission to completion.
Our Degrees
Choose the research pathway that matches your goals. All three are tracked stage-by-stage on this portal.
MPhil
The research threshold degree — proposal development, defence and supervised research leading to a thesis.
MSc
Master of Science in Physics — advanced study and a supervised research dissertation.
PhD
Doctoral research — original contribution to physics, culminating in thesis and external defence.
Specialisation Areas
- Experimental Solid-State Physics
- Theoretical Solid-State Physics
- Nuclear Physics
- Solar Physics
- Applied Geophysics
